Where To See the Best Austin Christmas Lights
Austin is a city full of personality, so it’s no surprise that it goes all out when it comes to holiday lights. There are numerous light displays, both free and paid, to enjoy this holiday season.
Most of the events listed below begin in November and run until the new year.
Peppermint Parkway
Six million lights light up Circuit of The Americas, Austin’s Formula 1 racetrack, between Thanksgiving and Christmas. This mile-long drive-thru display follows the adventures of two characters, Pepper and Mint, on a holiday trip. There are also rides, food trucks and a photo opportunity with Santa waiting at the end of the drive.
Trail of Lights
Perhaps Austin’s most popular holiday event, the Trail of Lights, has lit up Zilker Park since 1965. This ticketed event features forty displays, two million lights and a variety of holiday activities suitable for all ages. As you walk through the park, you’ll also find several places to stop for food or a warm holiday drink. Be sure to check out ABC Home & Commercial Services’ display!
The Trail of Lights runs over two weeks leading up to Christmas. Book your tickets early and expect a crowd.
Downtown Holiday Stroll
If you’re looking for a more relaxed event that still feels festive, check out the Downtown Holiday Stroll. This one-night-only event includes one of Austin’s best features: live music. Enjoy the Christmas singalong as you stroll through the decked-out city. You may even spot some Christmas light ideas for your outdoor spaces that you want to implement for your home.
Zilker Park Holiday Tree
For a free event, hit up the Zilker Park Holiday Tree at 2100 Barton Springs Road. The tree stands at an impressive 155 feet tall and features over 3000 multicolored lights. It’s topped off with a sparkling 10-foot-wide star. The tree lights up every night at 6 pm throughout December.
